      <title>Bolinas Shell Cluster 1

A sculpture made from muscles shells, driftwood and a few pearls. All parts were polished by hand and visibly screwed together. The screws show that this is a man made object. I was inspired by Japanese okimono (small sculptures) that often depict seemingly un-extraordinary natural objects. The sculptures are so well made that they become extraordinary. This piece measures 16” long and is the first in a series of shell clusters.
Made in 2008</title>

      <title>Reed Painting

This painting is part of a series developed after a trip to Jamestown, Virginia. Jamestown was the first successful English settlement in the “New World.” In 1607 a small fort was established on an island in the James River. The location was essentially a swamp and was poorly suited for agriculture. While visiting the site I was amazed that what we know as The United States of America grew from a swamp. I began painting realistic scenes of the surrounding reeds and plants and eventually turned to highly stylized representations like the painting above. Each painting includes a hand made frame. This piece measures 20” x 30”.

      <title>Maple Burl Platter

A unique platter made from a beautiful maple wood burl slice. The piece started as a cut off I found on the floor of a saw mill. The mill owner gave it to me because the wood was cracked and warped, which is what I liked about it. The beautiful grain pattern only revealed itself after days of sanding. 20” x 17”.

      <title>Folding Table and Benches

This project developed over two years. The initial table was made to fill a need in my back yard. A lightweight table that could be easily folded up and stored in the winter. As interest grew in the project and my knowledge of manufacturing grew the pieces became more like jewelry. The table base is made from machined and anodized aluminum. The veneered plywood top folds in half with a leather hinge. The benches are made from machined and formed aluminum. The table and benches magically assemble using rare earth magnets.
Designed in 2008 - 2009.</title>
